The Irish Dachshund Club Show was held today, so it was a day for the smaller members of Gulliagh Kennels. The Miniature Wire-Haired male, Ir Ch Gulliagh Dunk'n Donut, was second in Champion Dog, while his mother Ir Ch Candy vom Gesselner Feld won her Champion Bitch class. Meanwhile, the Kaninchen Wire-Haired Dachshund, Ir Ch Nice One from Vitoraz to Gulliagh, won the bitch Green Star and then Best of Breed. The judge from Mrs Nicole Kubli from Switzerland.

So another Championship Show in Northern Ireland today, at Belfast Dog Show Society. Under Mrs Maggie Holder, Gulliagh Ardtully won Post Graduate Dog again, GB & Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus was placed second in Open Dog, and GB & Ir Ch G. Albus won the Reserve CC. In the bitches, G. Corrig won Limit Bitch, so giving her a Kennel Club Stud Book Number.

The Irish Wolfhound Club of Northern Ireland held its UK Championship Speciality in Hillsborough Fort, Co. Dublin again this year, the judge was the President of the Irish Wolfhound Club of America, Mr Dennis Gallant, who had an excellent entry of 81.

We had a wonderful day, especially in the males. Gulliagh Ardtully, Gulliagh Hagrid and Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus won Post Graduate, Limit and Open Dog respectively, so the top three in the line-up for the CC were ours. Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus was awarded his third CC, and G. Hagrid won his first Reserve CC! So G. Albus is now a British Champion! We believe that is the first time in many years that two litter brothers won a CC and RCC at the same show, especailly a Club Show.

The girls were all placed well, with G. Barraduff winning Undergraduate Bitch, G. Corrig second in Post Graduate Bitch, G. Scarlet thid in Limit Bitch, G. Molly Malone fourth in Open Bitch and Ir Ch G. Nedine second in Veteran Bitch.

Later on in the Best in Show competition, the now GB & Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus was placed Best in Show!

In the specials, Ir Ch G. Nedine won Best Brood Bitch, while Max Finney handled many of our hounds to win Best Team.

Great news from the Irish Breeds Society Championship Show today. Gulliagh Jill Pole, owned by Pauric O'Neill, was the sole Gulliagh representative under Mr Michael Daly, and ended up winning the bitch Green Star and Best of Breed! Pauric has now made his first Wolfhound into a Champion.

Drogheda & District Canine Club held its show today at a very windy Bellewstown racecourse. The Kaninchen Wire-Haired Dachshund, Nice One from Vitoraz to Gulliagh, won her 14th Green Star (since arriving in late June), but her first since she became 15 months, meaning that she is now the first ever Kaninchen Wire-Haired Dachshund Irish Champion!

It was a good day for the young Wolfhounds, Gulliagh Ardtully was shown at his first All-Breed Show since he was a puppy and came away with his first Green Star under Mr J Robertson from Scotland. G. Ardtully's sister, Gulliagh Corrig, won the Reserve Green Star.

Back from a very wet Munster Circuit, 5 shows over 7 days. The star of the week was our Miniature Wire-Haired male, Ir Ch Gulliagh Dunk'n Donut, who was only shown in 4 shows but came away with 3 Best of Breeds and a Reserve Best of Breed, out of about 30 others. The Kaninchen, Nice One from Vitoraz to Gulliagh, came away with 5 Best of Breeds out of 5, while the Wolfhound Gulliagh Hagrid won the Green Star at Limerick.

Two shows this weekend. the first one was Bangor Show held in Belfast, where Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus was given the Green Star and Best of Breed under Mr U Brathen. We also showed the Kaninchen Dachshund Nice One from Vitoraz to Gulliagh at both Bangor and Dun Laoghaire International Show, held in Cloghran, Co. Dublin, and she managed to win the Green Star and Best of Breed on both days under Mr Wendell Moore from England and Mr Niels Brandstrup from Norway respectively. In the case of Mr Brandstrup, he only gave approximately 10 excellents out of an entry of 101 Dachshunds.

A super day for Gulliagh Kennels today at Dundalk & District Canine Club. In the Dachshunds under Mr S Pollock from England, Nice One from Vitoraz to Gulliagh won the Green Star and Best of Breed, and also was made the first Wire-Haired Irish Junior Champion. In the Wolfhounds, Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus won the Green Star and Best of Breed under Miss Margaret Martin, Gulliagh Hagrid winning the Reserve Green Star.

The day wasn't over though, as Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus then won the Sighthound Group under Mr S Pollock, and finished up Reserve Best in Show out of over 1200 entries under Mr Tom Creamer!

Also some word from Argentina, Cl Ch Gulliagh Currabeg is now an Argentinan Champion!

Just back from Sligo & District Championship Show, where Ms N Zake from Latvia gave Gulliagh Hagrid his first Green Star! In the Dachshunds, our Kaninchen Wire-Haired Dachshund, Nice One from Vitoraz to Gulliagh, won the Green Star and Best of Breed under Ms A Carlstrm from Sweden.

Two shows this weekend. On Saturday, at Bray & District Championship Show, Ms Joyce Crawford-Manton gave Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus the dog Green Star and in the bitches, G. Corrig the Reserve Green Star.

On Sunday, Irish Ladies KA Championship Show was held, where Ms D Ritchie was the judge, and once again Ir Ch G. Albus was given the dog Green Star. In the Dachshunds, our Kaninchen Wire-Haired Dachshund, Nice One from Vitoraz to Gulliagh, won the Green Star and Best of Breed under Mr W Blount.

Kilkenny & District Canine Club held their Championship Show today in a lovely new venue just outside Kilkenny City. And it was an excellent venue for the Gulliagh Wolfhounds too. Mr Jon Wauben, a well-known Wolfhound judge from the Netherlands was officiating, where he gave Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus the dog Green Star and afterwards the Best of Breed and in the bitches, he gave Pauric O'Neill's Gulliagh Jill Pole her 6th Green Star, one more to go for her, and G. Corrig the Reserve Green Star. Ir Ch G. Albus was later placed second in Group X by Irish all-rounder Mr JJ Walsh.

In the Dachshunds, our Kaninchen Wire-Haired Dachshund, Nice One from Vitoraz to Gulliagh, won the Green Star and Best of Breed under Mrs S Kealy.

Another lovely day for Gulliagh today at Swords Int. Show. In the Wolfhounds, Ir Ch Gulliagh Sequoia won the Green Star and CACIB under Mr J Boujasson, so he gains his International Title. Ir Ch G. Albus and G. Molly Malone won the two Reserve Green Stars and CACIBs.

In the Dachshunds, our new Czech Kaninchen Wire-Haired Dachshund, Nice One from Vitoraz to Gulliagh, Ireland's first and only, won the Green Star and Best of Breed under Mr H Lehkonen at her first Irish show and then later on in the group was placed third under Mr A Korózs.

Another very successful journey for Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus and co., this time in Scotland for Border Union Championship Show. Under sighthound specialist Mr CK Thornton, G. Albus won the Open Dog class, and in the challenge, picked up his second CC. And after the bitch judging, he beat the CC bitch to win Best of Breed.

Meanwhile, G. Hagrid was second in Limit Dog. So another super day for G. Albus after his big win last week, and just one more CC needed to claim his GB Championship.

Today was the Irish Wolfhound Club of Ireland Club Show, the Southern Irish Speciality. Peter Pask from Wales was the judge. We had a very enjoyable day. In the males, Gulliagh Ardtully won Intermediate Dog, G Albus and G. Hagrid were first and second in an Open Dog Class of 12 respectively, and Ir Ch G. Sequoia won Champion Dog. In the challenge, G. Albus was given the Green Star for Best Male and is this year's Club Winner. That was the last Green Star needed to make him an Irish Champion!

In the females, it was a tale of seconds as G. Corrig, G. Molly Malone and Ir Ch G. Nedine all got second in their classes, Intermediate, Open and Champion respectively.

The now Ir Ch Gulliagh Albus then was placed RBIS. In the specials, Ir Ch G. Albus was awarded Best Movement. G. Hagrid was Tallest Male, while G. Barraduff was Tallest Female. And Ir Ch G. Nedine won the Brood Bitch with her children behind. And finally, our Max handled 6 Wolfhounds to win Best Team.

Another Green Star and CACIB for Gulliagh Albus today at the Irish Kennel Club International Show at Cloghran, Co. Dublin. The judge was Mr Salvatore Tripoli from Italy.

Hibernian Dog Club International Show was held today at Cloghran, Co. Dublin. Under Mr Tino Pehar from Croatia. Our Gulliagh Albus won the dog CACIB, while our young Gulliagh Corrig won both her first bitch Green Star and CACIB.

At Fermoy International Championship Show in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary today, our little Miniature Wire, Ir Ch Candy vom Gesselner Feld, won the bitch Green Star and CACIB, under German breed specialist Ms T. Backer Gassner. Meanwhile in the Wolfhounds, Gulliagh Albus won the Reserve CACIB.

Dachshund news today, as our Miniature Wire, Gulliagh Dunk'n Donut, has become an Irish Champion at Cork & District Canine Club under Mr D Neally.

Over to the NEC in Birmingham today for Crufts, the world's largest dog show. We had a good day under Mrs M Pursglove, with two good class wins, Gulliagh Hagrid won Post Graduate Dog out of 14 entries, while Ir Ch Gulliagh Nedine won the Veteran Bitch class. Gulliagh Corrig and Pauric O'Neill's Gulliagh Jill Pole also got placed in large classes, Yearling Bitch and Open Bitch respectively.

In Balmoral, Belfast today, for Newtownards & District Canine Club Championship Show. Under Mr Sean Carroll, Gulliagh Albus was awarded the dog Green Star and Best of Breed. Later in the group, he was placed fourth by Mr Bryan Doak.

News from the USA today. Gulliagh Aslan, the brother of our Gulliagh Jardis and owned by his sire's owner, Mrs Glynis Littlewood, was made up into an American champion over the weekend. He has already won and been placed in many large specialty classes.

It was confirmed today that our Miniature Wire-Haired Dachshund, Candy vom Gesselner Feld, a German import bred by Mr Dieter Honsalek, is now an Irish Champion, She is probably the first German bred Dachshund to be made into an Irish Champion.

We just got good news from Argentina. Gulliagh Currabeg, owned by Paula Colmegna and who is a sister of G. Ardtully and G. Corrig, has become the first Irish Wolfhound we have bred to become a champion in South America, when she gained her title over the weekend in Chile.

So now we have bred Wolfhounds that have gone on to become Champions in 5 different continents.

Happy New Year to all.

This year's showing season started early with the Minority Breeds Charity Open Show, which was held in Cloghran, Co. Dublin. We brought some of our young ones today, and under Mrs Judith Owens, Gulliagh Corrig went Reserve Best of Breed. And then later on in the day, G Corrig won the Junior Bitch Stakes. So a good day for her.
